Lamborghini is continuing its 50th anniversary celebrations with a grand tour, comprising 350 examples of the famous marque, running the length of Italy over five days and more than 1200km, starting overnight in Milan and finishing at the company’s Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters this Saturday (11.05.13).

Lamborghinis from 29 different countries, including Australia, will carry more than 700 participants on the tour. The youngest driver is 22, from Kuwait, and the oldest is a 75 year old French enthusiast. Models include the 350 GT, 400 GT, Miura, Espada, Jarama, Urraco, Countach, LM 002, Diablo, Murcielago, Gallardo and Aventador.

A Volkswagen Golf that’s faster than a Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche?

That’s the noise coming out of Germany, with VW just confirming it will reveal a bonkers, 370kW version of its seventh-generation GTI later this week.

It’s all part of VW’s Worthersee festival in Austria – an event used to showcase the brand to enthusiasts.

Dubbed the Design Vision GTI, the one-off concept is powered by a newly-developed twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 – an engine VW says is destined to be used in upcoming models.

Replacing the standard GTI’s iconic 2.0-litre turbo four, the V6 sees power rise by 129 percent from 162kW to a supercar beating 370kW.

Torque is up too, rising from 350Nm to 560Nm – 500 of which is said to be available from just 2000rpm.

Volkswagen claims that sees the Design Vision GTI rocket from 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds, with top speed leaping from 244km/h to 300 km/h.

As you’d expect, the standard GTI’s front-wheel-drive system is replaced by all-wheel-drive, with a new dual-clutch gearbox channelling the power to the wheels.

To handle the extra grunt, VW has added 20 inch wheels and made the concept 15mm shorter, 71mm fatter and 57mm lower than the standard car.

It’s not the first time VW has created an ‘extreme’ GTI, unveiling the Golf W12 at the same festival in 2007.

It used a mid-mounted W12 from the Bentley Continental GT.

If you love supercars, but can’t afford one, we’ve found you the perfect job.

Became a police officer in Dubai.

Not a day goes by without the Dubai police force adding another supercar to its multi-million dollar fleet, which already includes a Lamborghini, Ferrari and now, an ultra-rare Aston Martin One-77.

Apparently, these high-performance cars are essential to hunt down Dubai’s large population of supercar-steering criminals.

But just how many supercars does the Dubai police force use?

We’ve compiled them in one place to bring you this – the world’s fastest police car garage.

In a move that will have petrol-head fathers singing from the rooftops, Renault has launched a wagon variant of its razor-sharp Megan RS.

A car designed to combine the performance of the razor-sharp Megan hot hatch with the practicality of a wagon, the new Megan GT 220 will hit Australian roads later this month priced at $36,990.

Essentially an ‘RS lite’ version of the Megan RS265, the GT 220 uses the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and six-speed manual transmission but produces 162kW/340Nm – or 33kW/20Nm less than the hatch.

It’s also 268mm longer than the Megan hatch (wheelbase has been extended by 67mm), 44mm narrower and 59mm higher. Weight has gone up by 89kg.

Rear luggage space sits at 486-litres with seats up, but 1600L with the seats down.

While not technically an RS model, the GT 220 does wear Renaultsport badges and boasts an RS-tuned chassis and steering.

In a delicious dose of irony, struggling electric car maker Fisker looks to have been saved by a petrol-burping, tyre-shredding V8.

Former General Motors executive Bob Lutz has hatched a plan to save Californian company Fisker, which has allegedly been facing a dire financial situation for months, by buying incomplete cars and fitting them with massive, supercharged V8s.

In fact, Lutz plans to use the same 430kW 6.2-litre supercharged LSA unit that will be found in Holden’s new VF HSV GTS.

The V8 will replace a pair of 150kW battery packs that currently power the stylish Fisker Karma.

In the age of Ken Block, truly great ‘car videos’ are rare.

Most are boring, too long, or are destroyed by hideous, hideous music.

Not this one.

Shot by Red Bull, this three minute video is exactly what it should be. Awesome.

It follows the antics of drifter ‘Mad Mike’ in his fire-breathing, quad-rotor, RX-7 on a closed mountain road in New Zealand.

There is also a cool behind the scenes look at how the whole thing was made!

So trust us. Sit back, crank up the volume and enjoy.
