The petrol-powered 2022 Lexus LX 600 will be sold in Australia alongside its diesel counterpart, the 2022 Lexus LX 500d, documents have revealed.

Regulatory filings submitted by Lexus to the Department of Infrastructure show the company has sought approval to bring in both powertrains announced for the LX at the model’s unveiling in October.

Unlike the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, which will be solely available in Australia with a diesel powertrain, Lexus buyers will have the additional option of a 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 engine producing 305kW and 650Nm in the LX 600.

The LX 500d uses a 3.3-litre twin-turbo diesel V6 putting out 227kW and 700Nm – the same specifications found in its Toyota cousin.

Both engines are coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and a low-range four-wheel-drive system.

While Lexus has yet to formally announce Australia specifications, the documents show a total of 12 possible configurations of the new LX across four variants, including an F Sport model.

Along with the option of a sub fuel tank for diesel models, buyers have the option of choosing five or seven seats – with a special ‘VIP’ four-seater limousine available on the LX 600 for the first time.

Full pricing and features for the 2022 Lexus LX range will be announced closer to the four-wheel-drive’s local launch next year.
