The upcoming new 2023 Nissan Z has been announced as the safety car for Japan’s popular SuperGT racing series – where it also competes as the motorsport replacement for Nissan’s heroic but ageing GT-R.
This latest news follows confirmation in early May that the new Z will come to Australia with a price tag starting from $73,300 before on-road costs – a figure that has so far been received favourably among our Facebook followers.

Time will tell if that sentiment will be reflected in the market, but Nissan says it’s had strong interest ahead of launch.
As for its role as safety car for the SuperGT racing series (a role also fulfilled by Toyota’s new Supra), the new Z will be used in pre-race inspections of the track and for leading the field when accidents occur on track.
For those who’ve been nestled under a rock for the past year or so, the new Z is powered a 298kW/500Nm 3.0-litre turbo petrol six, with six-speed manual and Mercedes-derived nine-speed automatic transmissions available to send power to the rear wheels.
