BMW has revealed the new iX4, an all-electric SUV coupe capable of travelling up to 828 kilometres on a charge – and it’s already locked in for Australia. The third member of BMW’s new-generation Neue Klasse family will reach our showrooms in the first quarter of 2027, initially offered in two dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variants.
Pricing will start from $103,900 before on-road costs for the iX4 40 xDrive, rising to $119,900 +ORC for the more powerful iX4 50 xDrive, which is the grey model photographed here. The flagship iX4 M60 xDrive – the red car in the press photos – will follow later in 2027 with more power, M-specific chassis tuning and more standard equipment.
Measuring 4782mm long, 1895mm wide and 1595mm tall, with a 2897mm wheelbase, the iX4 is the same length and width as the iX3 it’s based on, but 40mm down on height. The front end uses the same styling as its more practical sibling, while its sloping roofline and rear spoiler give it a sportier appearance.

Despite the aforementioned sloping roofline, the iX4 still offers 490 litres of luggage capacity behind its rear seats, expanding to 1600L with them folded (smaller than the iX3 by 30L with the seats up/150L seats down). There’s also an additional 58L storage compartment beneath the bonnet, while a panoramic glass roof is standard across the range.
The entry-level 40 and upper-spec 50 both run BMW’s ‘xDrive’ dual-motor all-wheel drive as standard. The iX4 40 xDrive produces 275kW and 520Nm, accelerates from 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds and offers up to 638km of WLTP range from its 82.6kWh battery. Its peak DC charging rate is lower than the 50 at 300kW, although BMW still claims a 10-80 per cent charge can be completed in 21 minutes.
The iX4 50 xDrive produces 345kW and 645Nm, completing the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.9 seconds and offering up to 828km of WLTP range from its larger 108.7kWh battery. It can also be DC charged at up to 400kW, with BMW claiming up to 387km of additional WLTP range can be added in just 10 minutes in ideal conditions. A 10-80 per cent charge is claimed to take as little as 21 minutes.
Inside, the iX4 features the same Panoramic iDrive system running Operating System X as the iX3, combining a 17.9-inch central touchscreen with BMW Panoramic Vision, which projects information across the lower portion of the windscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as is a 3D head-up display.
