The Raging Bull looks set to take another Nurburgring record off the Porsche 918 Spyder

IF YOU thought the Lamborghini Huracan Performante’s record Nurburgring lap was hair-raising, imagine doing it without a roof.

A roadster version of the track-focused Huracan range topper has been spotted at the Green Hell, and looks every bit as slippery as the coupe that chewed up the joint in a barely believable 6min 52sec last month.

One would assume Lamborghini is gunning for the cabriolet record too, which would require it to be within five seconds of the coupe to beat the existing open-top record of 6min 57sec, set by the Porsche 918 Spyder in 2013.

Despite its open top, the Porsche’s achievement was also the overall record including closed cockpit cars until the Performante Coupe’s effort brought it tumbling, and numbers suggest the Raging Bull can add insult to injury.

That said, it will probably still be a little heavier and a fabric roof is likely to increase drag though it will be interesting to see if the Lambo boffins can tweak the “Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva” (ALA) active aero package to compensate.

Based on the handicap that removing the roof added to other Lambo roadsters, expect the Huracan Performante Spyder to match the magic 3.0sec 0-100km/h time claimed by the Aventador Roadster, Ferrari 488 Spyder, McLaren 650S Spider and Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet.

The Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder is due for launch later this year. If it comes to Australia, expect a price tag north of the equivalent coupe’s $483,866.
