The LDV D90 large SUV has reintroduced turbo-diesel grunt in Australia after an absence of two years, with the seven-seat SUV receiving a more powerful engine, an expanded five-model range and a new top-spec model. Diesel power was dropped from the D90 lineup two years ago, leaving it exclusively petrol-powered, but LDV says customer demand has forced its return.
However, rather than simply using the previous diesel engine, LDV has fitted its newer 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit, which is also used in the Terron 9 and updated T60 ute. It produces 163kW of power and 520Nm of torque, compared with 160kW and 480Nm from the old model’s 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, and is paired with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

The new D90 diesel’s fuel consumption is rated at 8.1L/100km – 1L/100km less than the previous diesel engine – while its braked towing capacity rises to 3500kg, which is 500kg more than the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol D90’s maximum.
The existing 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine remains available, producing 184kW and 410Nm. Petrol models are available in either rear- or four-wheel-drive, with claimed consumption of 9.1L/100km and 9.4L/100km respectively.
LDV Australia has also expanded the D90 range with five variants, including a new flagship Luxe model that’s only available in diesel form. Above the mid-spec Executive, the Luxe adds a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, JBL audio, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, 20-inch alloy wheels with Continental tyres, front and rear differential locks and a hands-free power tailgate.
Standard equipment elsewhere in the range includes twin 12.3-inch displays, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and roof-mounted air vents for the second and third rows.

“Customers have been asking for the return of diesel power to the LDV D90 ever since it was paused from our line-up two years ago,” said LDV Australia general manager Dinesh Chinnappa. “With the revised LDV D90 range we are offering a wider range of price points and giving customers the choice of petrol or diesel power.”
