Mercedes-Benz Australia orders immediate recall of 2005-2013 ML, GL and R-Class

Mercedes-Benz has put out a wide-spread recall notice for its ML, GL and R-Class models built between 2005 and 2013.

Impacting a total of 17,687 units, the notice says the sealing of the brake booster in all three models may corrode, leading to an air leak which could result in a reduction of braking performance.

Mercedes-Benz says examples of the ML, GL and R-Class, which have suffered particularly severe corrosion, could have their boosters damaged by hard braking.

The German manufacturer has asked owners to stop driving their vehicles immediately, telling those affected to "contact an authorised Mercedes-Benz service centre to arrange for an inspection as soon as possible".

"The recall process will involve inspecting potentially affected vehicles and, depending on the results of the inspection, replacing the parts where necessary," said a spokesperson for Mercedes-Benz Australia.

"Until the inspection takes place, we ask our customers not to drive their vehicles. If necessary, Mercedes-Benz will work with the customer to arrange an alternative transport solution, free of charge, during this time."
