Mercedes-Benz has confirmed Australian pricing and specifications for the new-generation CLA Shooting Brake, which is now available to order ahead of its return to local showrooms in January 2027, this time with a choice of either hybrid or electric powertrains.

The new range will offer two variants down under: the CLA 200 Shooting Brake, priced from $70,800 before on-road costs, and the CLA 200 Shooting Brake electric, which starts at $72,990 plus on-roads. Both are just $2190 more expensive than the CLA sedan.

Based on the latest CLA sedan, the Shooting Brake combines silky styling with the added practicality of a wagon, thanks to its extended roofline, larger tailgate and increased interior space. Despite sharing its front-end styling with the sedan, the Shooting Brake offers an additional 26mm of rear headroom, while front occupants gain 14mm of headroom and 11mm of legroom.

The boot capacity measures 455 litres, expanding to 1290 litres with the 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats lowered. Like the sedan, the electric version of the Shooting Brake also features a 101-litre front storage compartment, or ‘frunk’. An electric tailgate is standard equipment.

As for drivetrains, the entry-level CLA 200 Shooting Brake features a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Producing 120kW and 250Nm, it sends grunt to the front wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Mercedes-Benz claims combined fuel consumption of 5.4L/100km, while the hybrid system can also propel the vehicle on electric power alone at low speeds and under light loads.

The CLA 200 Shooting Brake electric, meanwhile, features a rear-mounted e-motor producing 165kW and 335Nm, paired with a two-speed transmission. It offers up to 511km of WLTP-tested driving range, with energy consumption rated at 13.2kWh/100km. Thanks to its 800-volt electrical architecture, it supports DC fast charging at up to 320kW and AC charging at up to 22kW.

As we’ve seen with the sedan, both versions of the Shooting Brake are very well equipped and feature the AMG Line styling package as standard with 18-inch AMG alloy wheels, sportier bumpers and side skirts.

Other standard features include a panoramic glass roof, privacy glass, heated front seats, an electric tailgate, wireless smartphone charging and a 360-degree camera. The latest Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) also features with over-the-air software updates, 5G connectivity and a fourth-generation ‘MBUX’ infotainment system with an AI-powered voice assistant.

Three optional packages are available, including a $2850 Premium Package with a head-up display, Burmester sound system and upgraded headlights with adaptive high beam. A $1200 Sport Package adds 19-inch AMG wheels and black exterior detailing, while the $400 Winter Package adds a heated steering wheel and heated windscreen washer jets. The separate $1600 Sky Control system also allows occupants to switch the panoramic glass roof between transparent and opaque settings.
