About Tesla
Tesla is a US-based electric vehicle manufacturer that produces cars in the United States, China, and Germany. In Australia, most Tesla models are built in China. Tesla Australia offers a variety of vehicles, including the Model S sedan, Model X SUV, Model 3 sedan, and Model Y SUV. The Model 3 was originally intended to spell ‘SEXY’ with the model names, but Tesla could not secure the name, so they chose the Model 3 instead.
The company was founded in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. However, it wasn’t until Elon Musk invested US$6.5 million of his US$100 million PayPal sale into the company in 2004 that it really took off. Musk became the chairman of Tesla just three months later. The company’s first model was the Lotus-based Tesla Roadster, which has an interesting story of its own.
