Mercedes-AMG has revealed its first dedicated high-performance electric four-door coupe, introducing a new drivetrain and battery system designed to deliver sustained performance and rapid charging capability.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé is based on the company’s AMG.EA electric architecture and will launch initially in GT 55 and GT 63 variants. The flagship GT 63 produces up to 860kW, while the GT 55 develops 600kW.
Central to the vehicle is a three-motor setup using axial-flux electric motors developed by YASA, the British electric motor specialist acquired by Mercedes-Benz in 2021. Two motors are mounted at the rear axle, with a third motor at the front operating primarily as a boost unit when additional traction or performance is required.

Mercedes-AMG claims the GT 63 can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 2.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 300km/h when fitted with the optional Driver’s Package.
The car also introduces a new high-voltage battery system developed with input from Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains in the UK, the division responsible for the company’s Formula 1 power units. The battery uses tall cylindrical NCMA cells with silicon-containing anodes and direct cooling technology designed to maintain stable temperatures during repeated high-load driving.
Mercedes-AMG says the 800-volt architecture supports charging speeds of up to 600kW, allowing more than 460 kilometres of WLTP driving range to be added in 10 minutes. A 10 to 80 per cent recharge is claimed to take 11 minutes under ideal conditions.

The company said the axial-flux motor design allows greater power density and sustained output than conventional electric motors. The rear motors are integrated with a compact planetary gearbox, while silicon-carbide inverters are used to improve efficiency and thermal management.
The GT 4-Door Coupé also features active aerodynamic systems, semi-active roll stabilisation suspension and configurable driving modes designed to replicate some characteristics of AMG’s V8-powered models, including simulated gearshifts and synthetic engine sound profiles.
Mercedes-AMG said customer orders for the new models will open in coming days, with pricing to be aligned with comparable predecessor vehicles.
