British manufacturer Aston Martin has unveiled its planned pathway to go carbon neutral by 2039, with a number of hybrid and electric vehicles set to launch in the coming years.

Unveiled in its Racing.Green sustainability strategy, Aston Martin will introduce its first hybrid vehicle – the Valhalla – to the market in 2024 before launching a fully-electric vehicle in 2025, a first for the Gaydon-based brand.

The introduction of its first electrified models by 2025 will lead to Aston Martin's entire model range boasting some kind of electric power by 2030, with all new models from 2026 to be electrified.

Aston Martin has previously said it expects at least 50 per cent of its new vehicle sales to come from EVs by 2030, potentially spearheaded by a fully-electric variant of the DBX SUV and a successor to the current DB11 and Vantage.

A move towards net zero manufacturing emissions by 2030 comes off the back of a 44 per cent reduction in its UK emissions output between 2020 and 2021, which has been assisted by the move to 100 per cent renewable energy since 2019.

Supply chain emissions are set to drop as well, with a 30 per cent reduction from its 2020 baseline by 2030 targeted before the entire process goes carbon neutral before 2039, ultimately signialling the end of internal combustion engines in the process.

This reduction in supply chain emissions will come alongside a move to more sustainable materials being used in production, from green aluminium alloy to leather-free vegan interior options, allowing Aston Martin's vehicles to retain their luxury feel but with an environmentally conscious twist.

CEO Tobias Moers believes the marque's shift towards electric vehicles will allow it to retain its place as one of the biggest luxury automotive manufacturers.

“Aston Martin is accelerating – we are transforming our business and believe that now is the time to challenge ourselves to make a bigger difference, to become a world-leading sustainable ultra-luxury business," said Moers.

“Whilst embracing electrification, we believe our sustainability ambitions must be broader than just producing emissions-free vehicles, and want to drive sustainability principles across our entire business, with a team representative of society proudly producing responsible products with a reduced environmental impact and making a positive contribution to the communities where we operate.

“Applying our passion for engineering and design innovation to this challenge, we are excited about shaping not just how quickly the world gets from zero to sixty, but how quickly we get to net zero.”

A culture of inclusivity is also set to be adopted at Aston, with its Diversity, Equality and Inclusion strategy targeting 25 per cent of leadership roles within the business to be held by women within the next five years, spearheaded by Dr Anne Stevens who oversees the Racing.Green strategy.
