  • Could impact every example sold in the US in last 17 years

Ferrari North America has been forced to recall every car it has sold since 2005 over a potential defect with its braking system.

The notice affects a total of 23,555 vehicles sold during the last 17 years, and involves the: Ferrari 430, 488 Pista, F60 America, 612 Scaglietti, 812, California, F12, F8, FF, GTC4 Lusso, LaFerrari, Portofino and Roma models.

According to a recall filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the US, the problem is with the cap of the brake fluid reservoir.

The cap may not vent properly, thereby creating a vacuum inside the brake fluid reservoir – which may potentially leak brake fluid and lead to a partial or total loss of braking capability.

An investigation by the Italian carmaker revealed that the brake fluid reservoir cap fitted on the affected vehicles did not provide the proper ventilation for the braking system.

The company thinks that only around one per cent of cars are affected, but has to recall all 23,000 of them nonetheless – starting with 612 Scagliettis built in early 2004. In fact, the only Ferraris that will be exempt will be the 575M Maranello, 599 GTB, SF90, and the new 296 hybrid.
