  • A Ferrari FF for half the cost?
  • Based on electric/V6 GranTurismo coupe
  • Should Maserati make it?

Earlier this week Maserati unveiled the new 2023 GranTurismo coupe and confirmed a cabriolet would follow.

That got us thinking: What would a third member of the Maserati family look like? Digital artist Theottle’s rendering gives us a pretty good idea.

The front end is pure GranTurismo, but the rear end is clearly inspired by the Ferrari FF. It’s a classic breadvan shooting brake silhouette – or Freno di Tiro in Italian.

Maserati doesn’t have any plans to build a Ferrari FF on a budget like this. Instead, its range will expand with the introduction of this new coupe and its Porsche Macan-sized Grecale SUV.

It’s quite a lineup the revamped Maserati has going on after the all-new MC20 supercar.

Were it to come to fruition, this GranTurismo shooting brake would – like the coupe – utilise the Nettuno V6 debuted by the MC20 in either 360kW or 410kW trim as Maserati eschews the Ferrari-derived V8 from Quattroporte and previous Granturismo in favour of less cylinders.

In case you missed it, the new GranTurismo also comes with an electric powertrain. Two motors, all-wheel drive and 610kW of power. That would surely shake up the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo.

Of course, this is just a dream, but it’s exactly the kind of SUV antidote driving enthusiasts want from brands like Maserati.

We almost certainly won’t see something like this make production, but we can dream. Would you have one? Leave your opinion in the comments.
