Mercedes-Benz Vans has unveiled a limited-edition version of its Vito midsize van to mark the model’s 30th anniversary, while also celebrating 130 years since the company introduced what it describes as the world’s first motorised commercial van.

The Vito Crew Cab 30th Anniversary Edition will go on sale in Australia from August 1, priced from $86,679 before on-road costs, with production restricted to a limited number of vehicles for the local market.

The anniversary model is based on the five-seat Crew Cab and receives a significant mechanical upgrade, adopting the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine from the Mercedes-Benz V-Class people mover.

Producing 174kW and 500Nm, Mercedes-Benz says the engine makes the special edition the most powerful midsize crew-cab van currently available in its segment. Cargo capacity remains approximately 3.6 cubic metres, allowing it to continue serving dual passenger and load-carrying duties.

Alongside the more powerful drivetrain, the anniversary model gains a range of cosmetic and equipment upgrades over the standard Vito. These include an exclusive Alpine Grey paint finish, 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, a sports styling package and unique 30th Anniversary decals.

The cabin also receives additional standard features, including MULTIBEAM LED headlights, dual electric sliding doors, an electric tailgate, heated front seats with memory adjustment, wireless phone charging and black leatherette upholstery.

The Vito has been part of Mercedes-Benz’s global line-up since 1996 and has been sold in Australia since 1998. Over that time it has become a popular choice for tradespeople, courier operators and fleet customers, including Australia Post and DHL, thanks to its combination of compact dimensions and useful load capacity.

The anniversary model coincides with Mercedes-Benz Vans’ broader celebration of 130 years of commercial vehicle production, dating back to 1896 when Carl Benz developed one of the world’s earliest motorised delivery vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz also confirmed a range of promotional offers across its commercial vehicle line-up, including the Sprinter, Vito, eSprinter and eVito, will be available until September 30.
