Things to know

In most Australian states, if you've been caught speeding or running a red light, you can expect to receive a fine within approximately two weeks – the average processing time.

But! If you're in New South Wales, you'll need to exercise a bit more patience, as it can take up to 28 days.

Surprisingly, in Tasmania, the digital age works wonders, as you could potentially receive an electronically issued fine in a mere four days.

If you find yourself worried that you may have fallen victim to a speed camera, take heart: some states offer ways to check for any outstanding fines in your name.

For instance, in NSW, the Service NSW app is at your disposal for such inquiries, while in Victoria, fines.vic.gov.au serves as a portal to access this information.

Keep in mind that if you don't possess an infringement reference number, you may need to phone the relevant department for assistance.
