2013–2020 Mitsubishi Outlander recalled over hybrid battery

Mitsubishi has recalled 3,677 Outlanders sold between 2013 and 2020 over fears an incorrect battery may be fitted to the PHEV variants of the SUV.

The recall states that the 12 volt AGM (absorbent glass mat) battery found in the rear may have been replaced with a non-AGM battery before, or after, the cars were sold.

A non-AGM battery is more dangerous as it is more likely to release hydrogen sulphide gas, and if the car is involved in an incident, the incorrect batteries could leak acid and cause serious safety issues.

Mitsubishi is already in the process of contacting affected owners, who can have the fault fixed at their local Mitsubishi dealer free of charge, and are encouraged to do so as soon as possible.
