  • Due to front side window tinting that exceeds Government requirements
  • Approximately 5000 vehicles affected by the recall

Honda Australia has issued a recall for more than 5000 examples of the Civic and CR-V due to the fitment of illegal front window tinting.

The issue affects 5053 units sold between July 1, 2021 – when the brand implemented its fixed-price model – and November 7, 2022.

According to the recall notice, the affected vehicles are fitted with genuine accessory window tint to the front side windows that "does not meet specifications and may be too dark and reduce visibility."

"Honda Australia can confirm a recall notice has been issued for the accessory window tint to be removed from the front side windows of selected CR-V and Civic models sold between July 1, 2021 and November 7, 2022.

"The reason for the recall is that the tint product used during that time did not meet the visible light transmission (VLT) requirements in the Australian Light Vehicle Standards Rules 2015, and related legislation in each State and Territory for the front side windows.

"Consumer safety and product satisfaction is our top priority at Honda Australia, and we are taking this issue seriously. Affected customers will be notified of the recall in January to have the accessory window tint removed from their front side windows.

"The window tint product has been withdrawn from sale while Honda Australia reviews its tint processes."

Honda Australia will contact affected vehicle owners by mail to request they make an appointment with a service centre to have the window tinting removed.

A company spokesperson said customers would be "reimbursed from the removal of the tint from the affected windows".

A VIN list for the affected vehicles can be found here.

The brand can be contacted directly by calling 1800 804 954, or by visiting a dealership, found here.
