BMW’s new 2 Series Gran Coupe arrived in Australia just as the world was turned on its head, with its March 2020 launch bringing 218i and M235i xDrive variants to our shores.
As a coupe-roofed sedan companion to the new front-wheel-drive 1 Series hatch, the 2 Series Gran Coupe has been a fairly successful offering in Australia, with 1182 sold in 2021 so far.
Really, there’s no reason to believe BMW would have sold more 2 Series Gran Coupes if it had launched with a more traditional rear-wheel-drive configuration – but wouldn’t you love to see it bring that option, as a point of difference, against the A-Class Sedan and Audi A3 Sedan?

That’s just what our mate Theo Throttle has rendered here, turning the new-generation 2 Series Coupe into – well, let’s call it the 2 Series Sedan.
With a stretched roofline and wheelbase, this 2 Series Sedan adds rear doors to make it BMW’s smallest sedan and a potential option for young families with an interest in an extended game of ‘corners’ while power-sliding past the apex on track days. (Okay, this is an unlikely scenario, but still.)

In its real-world form, the new 2 Series Coupe is available for now in rear-wheel-drive four-cylinder 135kW/300Nm 220i and rear-biased all-wheel-drive six-cylinder 285kW/500Nm forms – and there’s no reason we couldn’t see both options with this new sedan body.
Would you like to see this new 2 Series Sedan join, or even replace, the existing 2 Series Gran Coupe?
