It didn’t take long for the internet to jump on BMW’s official release of the new 2 Series Coupe and put its own spin on it.
BMW has previously made its 2 Series as a convertible but has not yet said whether the next-generation car will go topless, only releasing its first official images of the new-look coupe this morning.
While two-door sports coupes are all well and good, Australia is the land of sunshine and we love to have the option of a drop-top, giving us the ability to access all the headroom in the world while driving about.

Luckily Theo Throttle has taken the liberty of showing BMW how it’s done, rendering the range-topping M240i xDrive sans roof.
Although the 285kW coupe already looks appealing, the convertible looks particularly good – especially in ‘thundernight metallic’ (or purple, as it’s otherwise known).
Imagine the uproar if BMW decides not to chop the top off the new 2 Series? Some would argue it to be akin to not offering a manual gearbox in the model’s variants.
With the M2 still yet to be revealed, 2 Series buyers have to stick with just two pedals for now – the new car only being offered with a ZF eight-speed automatic, as the hi-po variant is set to be the only version with a manual.
