Kia’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle line-up is set to grow further, with leaked internal documents revealing plans for an all-new mid-size electric SUV called the EV7. According to The Korean Car Blog, an internal document from Kia’s Employment Stability Committee has revealed that production of the new EV7 is planned for the company’s Gwangju manufacturing facility in South Korea.
While Kia has yet to officially announce the model, the document confirms that the EV7 will be a mid-size electric SUV, slotting between the existing EV6 and larger, three-row EV9. This would likely make it a larger alternative to the EV5, which currently serves as Kia’s electric equivalent to the popular Sportage, and potentially position it closer in size to the seven-seat Sorento.

The EV5 measures 4615mm long, 1875mm wide and 1675mm tall, with a 2750mm wheelbase, while the Sorento is 4815mm long, 1900mm wide, 1700mm tall and 2815mm long between the wheels. The EV7 could offer additional passenger and cargo space compared to the EV5, although its dimensions and seating configuration remain unconfirmed.
The new model is also expected to benefit from Kia’s next-generation electric vehicle technology, which the company outlined during its 2026 CEO Investor Day in April. Kia announced plans to develop a new EV platform designed to improve performance and reduce costs, claiming it could deliver up to 40 per cent greater battery capacity and a nine per cent improvement in electric motor output.
The company also confirmed that its fifth-generation battery technology would offer up to 15 per cent greater energy density compared with its existing batteries. However, Kia has not confirmed whether the EV7 will use this new platform or continue with the existing E-GMP architecture found beneath models such as the EV6 and EV9.
The EV7 could also feature an 800-volt electrical architecture, allowing faster DC charging than the 400-volt system used in the EV5. For comparison, the EV5 currently offers an 81.4kWh battery and a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 530km, while the EV6 and EV9 benefit from faster charging capabilities thanks to their 800-volt electrical systems.

The EV7 forms part of Kia’s broader electrification strategy, with the manufacturer previously announcing plans to expand its global electric vehicle range to 14 models by 2030. Alongside the EV7, the leaked document reportedly outlines plans for a new-generation Carnival, including a hybrid model in 2028 and a hydrogen-powered version in 2029, as well as an updated Sorento.
An Australian launch for the EV7 has yet to be confirmed, although the model could eventually join Kia’s growing local electric vehicle range, which already includes the EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6 and EV9. Further details, including the EV7’s design, powertrain, battery capacity, driving range and production timing, remain under wraps.
