Nissan has broadened its Australian X-Trail line-up for 2026 with the addition of three more affordable front-wheel-drive e-POWER hybrid variants and a new Rock Creek model aimed at buyers seeking a more rugged-looking family SUV.

The biggest change is the expansion of Nissan’s e-POWER hybrid technology, which is now available in front-wheel-drive ST-L, Ti and Ti-L grades for the first time. Previously, the hybrid system was offered exclusively with all-wheel drive.

Pricing for the new e-POWER range now starts at $45,990 before on-road costs for the ST-L 2WD, with the Ti priced from $50,915 and the Ti-L from $54,715. The new variants are between $2925 and $3500 less expensive than their all-wheel-drive equivalents.

Unlike conventional hybrid systems, Nissan’s e-POWER setup uses a petrol engine solely as a generator to recharge the battery, while the wheels are driven exclusively by an electric motor.

The switch to front-wheel drive also improves efficiency. Nissan claims combined fuel consumption of 5.4L/100km, down from 6.1L/100km for the all-wheel-drive e-POWER models, while CO₂ emissions fall from 139g/km to 123g/km.

Alongside the hybrid expansion, Nissan has introduced the X-Trail Rock Creek, a new variant based on the petrol-powered ST-L 4WD. Priced from $48,315 before on-road costs, it carries a $2600 premium over the ST-L on which it is based.

Available exclusively with seven seats and all-wheel drive, the Rock Creek receives a unique front grille inspired by Nissan’s D21 ute, gloss-black exterior trim, bespoke front bumper, black roof rails, exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels and orange exterior detailing. A new Baja Storm paint finish with a contrasting black roof is also offered.

Inside, the Rock Creek features ballistic nylon seat trim with embroidered badging, orange contrast stitching, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.8-inch head-up display, upgrades over the donor ST-L grade.

Mechanically, the Rock Creek retains the standard petrol drivetrain and all-wheel-drive system.

The expanded range reflects growing demand for hybrid powertrains in Australia’s medium SUV segment, where buyers have increasingly shifted away from conventional petrol-only models. Nissan says around half of hybrid medium SUV buyers now choose two-wheel-drive vehicles, prompting the introduction of the lower-priced e-POWER variants.

Orders for the new front-wheel-drive e-POWER grades and the X-Trail Rock Creek are open now, with the first Australian customer deliveries expected in September 2026.

All 2026 X-Trail models continue to be covered by Nissan’s 10-year/300,000km conditional warranty, along with capped-price servicing of $399 per service for the first five years when maintained through the brand’s authorised dealer network.
