XPeng’s new Mona L03 medium SUV is likely to be sold in Australia by early 2027, or maybe even before then. The L03 is the second model offered in the brand’s value Mona range after the M03 sedan, and in China at least, is offered with either fully electric or range-extender plug-in hybrid drivetrains. According to XPeng, it’s targeting similar pricing to the Geely EX5 in Australia, which will translate to a starting price of around $40,000-$45,000 before on-road costs.
The Mona L03 is the first product from XPeng that is available with the aforementioned range-extender hybrid drivetrain as everything the company has built before that has been fully electric. Both electric and range-extender Mona L03 drivetrains use a 183kW motor on the rear wheels, with the EV offering either 56kWh or 77kWh batteries with a claimed range of up to 520km.

The range-extender model adds a 70kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that acts as a generator for its 37.2kWh battery, and the claimed EV range is around 250km in China (European WLTP figures are yet to be confirmed) with claimed a total hybrid range of over 1000km. For performance, the EV hits 100km/h in just 6.6 seconds, with the range-extender adding only 0.2 seconds to that.
Unlike the more expensive G6 already on sale that uses an 800-volt architecture for super fast charging, the Mona L03 uses a cheaper 400-volt platform and its DC fast charging speed peaks at 149kW.
Measuring 4650mm long, 1920mm wide and 1600mm tall, the Mona L03 is sized similarly to the Toyota RAV4. Of course, the roofline is much more coupe-like than the RAV4, but XPeng says that there’s still plenty of space in the rear, as well as a large 539-litre boot (plus 102 litres in the frunk). Because of the coupe roof, the Mona L03 has a claimed drag co-efficiency of just Cd 0.228, which is very important for efficiency.
The L03’s styling follows the slightly larger G6 with slinky roofline, a modern and low slung front and and big tailights, which are joined for the L03. The interior also follows a similar layout with a big 15.6-inch central touchscreen, no driver’s display but a huge head-up display and plenty of soft touch materials throughout the cabin.

While standard features are yet to be announced for Australia, in China, available equipment for the Mona L03 includes integrated Google features, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 20-speaker sound system, heated/cooled/massaging front seats, colour-selectable ambient lighting, dual wireless phone chargers and a full suite of active safety kit like seven airbags and adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving functionality.
Local availability for the XPeng Mona L03 is likely to be announced soon as part of XPeng’s switch in the Australian market to factory distribution.
