The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will continue to be offered with front-wheel drive (FWD) in Australia, despite the model moving exclusively to all-wheel drive (AWD) in other markets.
Last week, Mitsubishi’s North American arm announced the Eclipse Cross would stop offering FWD variants, with buyers now only given access to AWD models.
A spokesperson for Mitsubishi Australia has confirmed to Wheels the Eclipse Cross will continue to be sold locally in both FWD and AWD forms, citing strong demand from its customers for the decision.
Sales data obtained by Wheels shows FWD variants make up the vast majority of purchases in Australia, with around 85 per cent of Eclipse Cross buyers preferring front-wheel drive.

Industry sales data from FCAI shows the Eclipse Cross is sitting in fifth position within the crowded Small SUV segment.
Of the 22 different models within the category, the Eclipse Cross sits behind the Mitsubishi ASX in fourth on the March leaderboard, and just a nose ahead of the Volkswagen T-Roc in sixth position.
The price difference between an equivalent FWD and AWD Eclipse Cross LS is around $2500.
