Harder Lamborghini Huracan coming

A harder, faster and even more focused version of the Lamborghini Huracan could be on the way, with company bosses confirming they see potential for "something more extreme".

The new model would sit above the just-launched Huracan Performante and boast an even greater track focus with technology lifted from Lamborghini's Super Trofeo motorsport program.

"Yes, I think there is room for something more extreme," said Lamborghini commercial director Federico Foschini. "We see many people buying the Super Trofeo [GT3 racer], not to run in a championship but to just use for themselves at a track day for example.

"So yes, there could be another version that is even more naked for example, even stiffer and just for the track."

Lamborghini insiders hinted the new Huracan will be even more extreme in philosophy than track-focused rivals like the Ferrari 458 Speciale and Porsche 911 GT3 RS, though don't expect to see it any time soon.

The new model isn't due to appear until later in the Huracan's life cycle (a facelifted version is due within 18-24 months) to ensure Performante customers don't feel shortchanged.

"It is different to what we have achieved with the Performante," said Foschini.
"With the Performante we did a whole approach that was different to the previous Gallardo Superleggera.

“You drive the Performante on the road and it is the same as the regular Huracan. On the track it is a car that works with you, it is always in the right place.

"So to overcome this performance will not be easy. But we can always go stiffer and create something faster for the track."

That should mean an even greater focus on reducing weight and a further development of Lamborghini's patented ALA active aerodynamic system.

As for what the most extreme road-going Huracan will be called?

"I'm not telling you, but it has to come from motorsport," said Foschini.

"I'm not saying this car would have more power [compared to the 470kW/600Nm Performante] it just would have a different focus."
