Bentley has begun teasing its first ever electric car, which it has revealed will be called Torcal. Set to debut on September 23 in London, the new Bentley Torcal large electric SUV will reportedly use the same ‘PPE’ underpinnings as the electric Porsche Cayenne and measure around five metres in length.

Sitting below the Bentayga in the brand’s lineup, the Bentley Torcal is in its final stages of testing ahead of its full debut. While it’s been previously described by the company as an “urban EV”, using the same underpinnings of the electric Porsche Cayenne means that it’ll definitely be capable of travelling beyond just urban landscapes.

For reference, the electric Cayenne features a dual-motor drivetrain making up to 850kW of power (or 1139 horsepower) and 1500Nm of torque. It launches to 100km/h in just 2.5 seconds and hits a top speed of 260km/h. Underneath the Cayenne is a 113kWh battery for up to 537km of WLTP range, but it can be fast charged at up to 400kW. How different the Torcal’s drivetrain will be is not yet known.

While it’s important because it’s Bentley’s first EV, the Torcal will also introduce the brand’s latest design language. Drawing inspiration from the EXP 15 concept car from 2025, the Torcal will likely feature a striking illuminated grille, vertical quad LED headlights and a “prestigious shield” at the rear.

The interior is yet to be fully revealed as well, but recent spy shots have shown a curved infotainment screen like the electric Cayenne, which would see it as the most tech-filled Bentley interior yet.

Drawing inspiration from “extraordinary landscapes”, the name Torcal is derived from the Spanish El Torcal de Antequera nature reserve.

Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, CEO of Bentley, said: “Our first fully electric Bentley represents a bold step forward; it embodies our vision for sustainable luxury and technological excellence. With industry-leading charging capability and unmistakable Bentley character and design, it marks the beginning of an exciting new era for our brand – a future defined by innovation, craftsmanship and sustainability.”

The Bentley Torcal will be fully revealed on September 23, with Australian availability yet to be confirmed.
