MG Motor Australia has updated its MGS5 EV small SUV range following strong customer demand for higher-specification models, with more than 80 per cent of customer orders since launch placed for the Essence variants. As such, the entry level Excite has been culled and pricing for the range now starts at $41,990 driveaway for the Essence 49 and $46,990 driveaway for the top-spec Essence 62.
The MY26 update also sees the flagship MGS5 EV Essence 62 receive a more powerful electric motor and increased driving range, while retaining its current driveaway price.
The Essence 62 now produces 150kW of power and 350Nm of torque, up from 125kW and 250Nm respectively, improving the 0-100km/h sprint to 7.0 seconds from 8.6 seconds, while driving range has increased to up to 450km (WLTP) from 425km. The upgraded motor adopts advanced motor technology that delivers higher power density and improved efficiency.
The MGS5 EV range also new includes wireless Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring and a hands-free power tailgate as standard.

According to MG, since the MGS5 EV launched in Australia, customer demand has been heavily weighted towards the higher-specification models, with the Essence 62 accounting for 58 per cent of all MGS5 EV sales.
MG Motor Australia Marketing Director for Australia and New Zealand, Dimitri Andreatidis, said the updates demonstrate how customer feedback and purchasing trends are helping shape the brand’s local product strategy.
“The Australian EV market continues to grow, but it’s also maturing, and customers have a much clearer understanding of what they’re looking for in an electric vehicle,” Mr Andreatidis said. “That customer feedback and buying behaviour has helped shape these latest updates. The updated Essence 62 delivers more power and greater driving range while remaining at the same price, and we’ve simplified the line-up to better reflect what Australian customers are choosing.”
2026 MGS5 EV pricing (driveaway):
