Jeep’s Hellcat V8-powered monster SUV makes a mockery of its claimed combined fuel economy figure in real life – after all, it’s a 527kW supercharged motor on board a 2000kg SUV. How does 19L/100km – or 470km from a 93-litre tank – grab you? Right by the credit card, we reckon.

MASERATI GRAN TURISMO

The Maser’s old-school Ferrari-sourced naturally aspirated 4.7-litre V8 isn’t particularly powerful (338kW), but it sounds brilliant… and boy it loves a drink. Expect real-world figures in the very high teens.

FERRARI GTC4 LUSSO

Ferrari’s replacement for the FF ups the V12 power while lowering fuel consumption (slightly). Nevertheless, the heaviest Ferrari has a tremendous thirst, and you’d have to have the patience of a monk to keep the claimed figure within sight. And we’re not that patient. But when you can spend $500k on a car, fuel is probably the least of your worries…

ROLLS-ROYCE PHANTOM EWB

The long-wheelbase version of the enormous Phantom enjoys the odd tipple of premium unleaded for its 6.7-litre V12. It’s a big car at more than 2.5 tonnes, so we expect that claimed fuel figure to be a tad optimistic. But hey, it’s Jeeves’ problem to fill it, not yours…
