The 2023 MG 4 has been shown off in leaked patent drawings, as the vehicle undergoes road testing in its native China.
Codenamed ‘EH32’, MG is looking to carve a space for itself in the burgeoning electric hatchback segment, with the MG 4 firmly targeting the likes of the Tesla Model 3, Volkswagen ID.3, and Nissan Leaf.
The patent images, published by China Car News, reveals a traditional hatch shape, bookended by an F1-inspired front bumper, sharp triangular headlights, and a prominent full-width tail-lamp design.

According to Chinese publication Xcar, a leaked company presentation referred to the EH32 as “the first global car” from MG, despite the company offering a number of models throughout Asia and Europe.
While vehicles in the past have been created for its home market and adapted for other international regions, the MG 4 – also referred to as the CyberE – was “based on extensive global market research and aimed at the needs of overseas consumers”.

Details of the electric hatch have not been released at this stage, but some reports are speculating the MG 4 will be fitted with dual electric motors for all-wheel drive – though a high-performance tri-motor variant hasn’t been ruled out.
Due to be unveiled in the coming months, it’s too early to know whether the 2023 MG 4 will be brought to Australia – but given it’s a so-called ‘global’ model, and the brand’s ever-increasing market share locally, there’s a good chance MG will want to offer the electric vehicle to Aussie buyers.
