The Ferrari FXX-K Evo has been announced

Latest addition to the XX lineup has been officially announced after plenty of speculation

Ferrari FXX K Evoluzione

If you thought the LaFerrari was bonkers, Ferrari’s FXX-K was there to let you know that things only get more hardcore from there.

Now, there’s a car that makes the FXX-K look tame. It’s the Ferrari FXX-K Evo.

Though the engine and its outputs are essentially the same as that of the ‘regular’ FXX-K (773kW from a 6.3-litre NA V12 and an electric motor), the Evo cops a plethora of changes which improve handling, weight, and more importantly, downforce.

Ferrari-FXX-K-Evoluzione-drive.jpgFerrari explains: “As was the case with the Evo versions of the FXX and the 599 XX, the Ferrari FXX-K Evo benefits from an extensive package that applies innovative concepts derived from all of the various track categories in which Ferrari competes with its cars.”

Essentially, Ferrari is closing the gap between its road cars and its race cars.

As a result, an aero package has been gifted to the Evo which creates almost as much downforce as Ferrari’s GT3 and GTE cars. At top speed, the FXX-K Evo produces 830kg of downforce, 23 per cent more than the standard FXX-K.

Ferrari-FXX-K-Evoluzione-exhaust.jpgMost obviously improving downforce is the twin-profile fixed wing which has been developed to amplify the downforce produced by the active rear spoiler. A central fin also improves the Evo’s stability.

The aero pack is so meticulous that Ferrari even hollowed out the space beneath the headlights to make space for “a couple of flicks divided by a vertical turning vane and an additional intake ahead of the front wheels.”

Ferrari says this small change nets a 10 per cent increase in downforce production compared to the FXX-K’s front bumper.

In terms of availability, details are scarce, but Ferrari says the Evo will be available “as an extremely limited-run model and as an upgrade package for the existing XX cars.”
