Cupra is proud to announce that the last of Australia’s initial production batch of 600 Cupra Borns is rolling off the production line, with the factory pledging a healthy supply of the $59,990 (before on-roads) electric hatch from henceforth.

Lingering supply chain and logistical issues remain but are perpetually improving, with local spokespersons, speaking to Wheels, stating they are confident that they can ensure an always-on-sale status for the significant electric hatch.

Jeff Shafer, Head of Product and Planning, speaks resolutely, saying that, short of anything disastrous happening, they believe that the “Born will be the best-selling European EV this year”.

Cupra Australia’s Brand Director, Ben Wilks, states that “over 500 orders” have already been placed since pre-orders initially opened in December. Popular demand saw Cupra Australia up its initial production batch of 400, to 600 Cupra Borns. Any remaining available Borns are to be added to Cupra’s central online inventory in the coming days.

Shafer, speaking to Wheels, later adds that “if demand is there, we're confident we can deliver four-figures [of Borns] this year”.

In town for the local launch of the Cupra Born (stay tuned for Wheels’ first local drive, dropping Thursday, May 4), Cupra’s global Vice President Kai Vogler was proud to share that over 300,000 Cupras had been delivered to customers’ hands since the brand’s launch five years ago. More than half of those deliveries took place in 2022, bolstering Cupra’s position in Europe as the fastest-growing brand, pegging a 98 percent year-on-year improvement in new registrations from 2021 to 2022.

The first quarter of 2023 saw Cupra’s biggest month to date, delivering 46,000 new vehicles globally.

In overseas markets where Borns have been available since 2021, over 31,000 Cupra Borns have been delivered to customers.
