AC Cars has unveiled a new take on its iconic Ace RS with a twist, as the one of the oldest British vehicle manufacturers continues a transformation to electric power.

Known as the AC Ace RS EV, the new vehicle comes decades after the model ended production. As a brand-new version, reservations for the retro sports car are open now – with first deliveries to begin in late 2022 for the UK market, priced from £129,500 (AU$243,242).

However, it’ll be strictly limited with just 37 cars available in a sole ‘Founders Edition’ specification.

Combining hand-built craftsmanship with a zero-emissions powertrain, the Ace RS EV is propelled by an electric motor producing 230kW/250Nm, with 500Nm of peak torque on offer. The electric powertrain has been developed by Falcon Electric, a UK-based company specialising in EV conversions.

Featuring a 38kWh battery, the Ace RS EV is good for an approximate driving range of 322 kilometres on a single charge. It will sprint from 0-100km/h in a claimed 5.5 seconds – a figure similar to the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus – largely thanks to its lightweight 1050kg mass.

Alan Lubinsky, current owner of AC Cars, said the shift to electric power will allow the vehicles to be “undeniably historic in character, yet thoroughly modern in their powertrain and performance.”

The Ace RS EV is the third electric vehicle to be introduced by AC Cars, following the launch of the Cobra Series 1 Electric – which is soon to enter production – and the Cobra Series 4 Electric revealed in June.
