- South Kingsville man nicked over damage to mobile traffic camera cars
- Three separate incidents said to have occurred
- One threat involved a tomahawk axe
Melbourne cops have arrested a cyclist today accused of launching multiple attacks on mobile camera cars in the city’s western suburbs.
Three separate incidents occurred, say police – one on December 4, 2022, and two on January 25 this year.
In the first, the man allegedly threw white paint over a mobile speed camera car, which was parked up in Blackshaws Road, South Kingsville, at the time.
In the second strike, which occurred in Civic Parade, Altona, the man was passing a camera car on a bike when he allegedly became verbally aggressive towards the operator, spitting on the window and punching the driver’s side mirror.

It’s alleged the man then returned an hour later and again splashed white paint over the vehicle and threatened the operator with a tomahawk axe.
Detectives raided a property on Blackshaws Road in South Kingsville this morning, but made the collar at an address in Maidstone Street, Altona, a short while later.
The 53-year-old man has been charged with criminal damage, abusing a road safety camera operator, threatening a road safety camera operator, threatening to inflict serious injury, possessing a dangerous article and other offences.
He appeared before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today. More to follow.
