On every shoot, MOTOR tries to capture the best possible imagery.

Time constraints or the weather sometimes put us up against it, but our awesome team of snappers – both freelance and staff – are constantly amazing us with their talent, efficiency and creativity.

Below you’ll find our selection of the Top 10 images of 2017, while in the gallery above are the many honourable mentions – it could’ve been three times as long! Rest assured we’ll be doing our best to ensure the 2018 list is even better.

Walkinshaw W407 – Cristian Brunelli (January 2017)

The aggression of Walkinshaw’s most powerful naturally-aspirated package ever perfectly captured by ‘Big Gull’ Cristian Brunelli.

Ford GT – William Walker (March 2017)

It’s difficult to take a bad photo of the wild Ford GT supercar, but this tracking shot accentuates the GT’s width, shows off its wild aero and beautifully highlights those staring-eye taillights.

Porsche 911 GT3 – Richard Pardon (April 2017)

Richard Pardon is one of the UK’s hottest young photographers and his stunning shoot of the new Porsche 991.2 911 GT3 highlights why.

Mazda MX-5 V8 – Travis Ingram (June 2017)

This Travis Ingram shot from our feature on the Flyin’ Miata V8-powered Mazda MX-5 perfectly captures what MOTOR is all about – having a lot of fun in awesome cars.

KTM X-Bow – Thomas Wielecki (June 2017)

Thomas Wielecki is one of Australia’s premier photographers, but he’s a bit of a strange cat. The equally weird KTM X-Bow gave Wielecki the perfect chance to let his imagination run wild.

Mercedes-AMG E63 S – Nathan Jacobs (July 2017)

By day a nondescript Melbourne laneway, by night the inspiration for a moody masterpiece by Nathan Jacobs, his subject the 450kW/850Nm Mercedes-AMG E63 S.

Nissan GT-R Nismo & BMW M4 GTS – Nathan Jacobs (August 2017)

Everything about this shot, taken from a comparison test between the BMW M4 GTS and Nissan GT-R Nismo, highlight the cars’ track focus. The ripple strip, the pit building, the wild wings and the carbon weave on the GT-R’s side sill.

CSV Ford Mustang – Cristian Brunelli (August 2017)

It takes a brave (or silly) person to lie in front of a 600kW twin-turbo Ford Mustang while its rear wheels are spinning at around 100km/h. Cristian Brunelli is that person.

Mercedes-AMG C63 S & Alfa Romeo Giulia QV – Ellen Dewar (September 2017)

Ellen Dewar put her body on the line for this one, braving the wind, the g-force and a lungful of Pirelli P Zero Corsa to snap Warren Luff doing what he does best.

Holden Commodores – Nathan Jacobs (November 2017)

Ten of Holden’s finest fast Commodores, expertly positioned and lit to farewell local eight-cylinder Lions. Looks glamorous now, but stitching together the dozens of flash shots is the tedious part of a photographer’s job.
